Vicodin Withdrawal

The symptoms of Vicodin withdrawal occur about 6 to 12 hours after a user stops taking the drug; and although Vicodin withdrawal is painful it usually passes without any real long-term consequences. Vicodin users that have used larger amounts of Vicodin over longer periods of time usually experience the worst withdrawal symptoms. While every person is different and undergoes various symptoms throughout the withdrawal period, there are a few common Vicodin withdrawal symptoms. These include:

· Sleeplessness/ insomnia
· Nausea/vomiting
· Anxiety
· Involuntary body movement
· Change in eating patterns
· Mood swings
· Muscle pain
· Diarrhea
· Hot and cold flashes
· Excessive sweating
· Panic

Although this is not a comprehensive list of all symptoms, these are the more common withdrawal symptoms. If a person has only been taking Vicodin for a short period of time, Vicodin withdrawal will usually only last for a few days. However, the Vicodin user has been taking the drug for pain for years, the withdrawal symptoms usually stay with that person for longer. It takes time for the central nervous system to begin functioning normally without Vicodin. For some people the involuntary body movements, mood swings and other relatively abnormal behavior can last months, even up to a year.

A medical detox helps with withdrawal symptoms, as does proper drug treatment.
